Photo surveys for rare wildlife high in Yosemite Park and far lower within the Rim Fire on national forest land…

Up in Yosemite Park’s crest zone, Lindsey, Megan, and Julia have been hiking into remote, high elevation terrain to set up and maintain CSERC’s baited camera stations. Our priority targets are the rare Sierra Nevada red fox or the “even more rare” wolverine, along with other at-risk furbearers.

So far this field season we’ve photographed numerous elusive American martens (such as the one at left that blends so well into its remote territory high in Yosemite Park.)

CSERC is also continuing our wildlife photo surveys within the Rim Fire at sites designated by the U.S. Forest Service. The photos we get at the camera stations assist the agency’s biologists to know which areas need special protection as critical habitat. Even common species such as the gray fox at right can help biologists to assess which animals are using recovering habitat.

For more than two decades, CSERC has provided these important wildlife surveys on public lands year-round.
