The Trump administration has openly acknowledged proposing a total of roughly $1.2 billon in National Park Service budget cuts that would include slashing funding for full-time Park Service employees by 1/3 (cutting 5,500 full-time Park Service positions) and slashing funding for seasonal employees by half.
The administration also aims ro cut 95% of the funding for natural resource protection programs in National Parks, and to cut cultural programs by 60%. The budget plan proposes eliminating the use of Land and Water Conservation funds for projects or programs in National Parks, even though those funds come from fees for offshore oil and gas leasing.
It’s a mind boggling attack on the very core values of Park Service management.
