Cedar waxwings — Second-place winning photo by Matt Lau

Almost everyone enjoys viewing pictures of wildlife. As one way to raise public interest in nature and to share the need to protect wildlife habitat, CSERC sponsors an annual Wildlife Photo Contest. Entries must be native species found in our region – from the Central Valley to the crest of the mountains. Many of the impressive photos from the contest are posted on our website, click here to see them.

Each year CSERC shares the top winning photos with newspapers of the region. Reporters often contact some of the prize-winning photographers for information about their photo and their interest in wildlife. This year was the most challenging yet for our CSERC staff when it came to picking the winners. A large number of the 349 entries could have easily ended up in the “Top 20” category.
