The Railroad Fire threatened Fish Camp, Cedar Valley, the Mariposa Grove, and the southern entrance to Yosemite Park

CSERC is supportive of decisions made this summer by Forest Service and Park Service officials (to manage certain wildfires for beneficial purposes in the public forests of our region). CSERC and other advocates for a higher use of managed wildfires also clearly recognize that some high severity fires need aggressive fire suppression to save threatened communities or resources (such as Nelder Grove giant sequoias that were threatened by the Railroad Fire).
