A great time of year to savor the sights and sounds of the season

The cinnamon teals at left were photographed by local Audubon bird expert John Turner, who shared this photo and others for CSERC to use as with our educational efforts and website photo galleries.

The female cinnamon teal nests along ponds or wetlands in the midst of reeds or other dense vegetation, where often the only access is tunnel-like openings through the plants.  These so-called "dabbling" ducks may scoop up aquatic plants, seeds, and insects, or they can dive for food.

Spring is a great time to get out and explore the rich diversity of habitats of the local foothills and mountains.  It is also a good time to assist CSERC with important volunteer workday projects (see inside).
