CSERC volunteers at Fiddlers Green

This year's restoration workday efforts have taken off witha bang thanks to our amazing crews of volunteers that having been showing up to make a difference at projects organized by CSERC staff.  Here's a few pictures to show what we've been doing and what you've been missing.

We have many more projects coming up, so let us know if you want to get involved!

If you want to see what other projects we have lined up for the year, link to our itinerary here.

Fiddlers Green Meadow streambank repair

Volunteers joined the Forest Service to help repair damaged streambanks after a harsh winter caused major erosion at the recently restored meadow site at Fiddler's Green. In just five hours over 20 people accomplished an astonishing amount of work.

Before the project: a downcut stream with damaged banks.

After the project: regraded stream banks will help keep the water table high.

Red Hills Yellow Starthistle Clean Up

On June 25th, CSERC staff and volunteers met with BLM botanists to help remove the invasive non-native plant, yellow starthistle, from key places near rare plant habitat within the Red Hills. The energy was high amongst the group: everyone felt like they made a big difference, the weather was perfect, and lots of native plants were still flowering despite the low elevation!

Scouts Gully Meadow streambank repair

Similar to the work done at Fiddler's Green, this meadow (which had been rehabilitated two years ago) had some significant erosion issues along its streambanks due to the winter's heavy precipitation. CSERC joined the Forest Service in helping to repair the banks with hand tools and rock retaining structures where needed. The work appears to have been a success and will hopefully help the stream stop down-cutting in the future.

Thanks volunteers for all your hard work!
