Local filmmaker James Patrick Kelly has lived in the Northern Yosemite region for most of his life. Through his backcountry snowboarding and hiking experiences over the past 15 years, he developed a strong passion for the outdoors -- especially for wildlife. Most of his outdoor adventure journeys have been in the Sierra Nevada, but he has also has traveled on extended backcountry trips throughout the west coast region of North America, from Alaska south to Baja, Mexico.
Besides hiking and snowboarding many of our local peaks, James has also taken on his own personal challenge of fishing all the rivers and lakes of the region. Packing his video camera on many of his adventures over the past six years, filming has become one of his strongest passions. As those who view his “Fragility” wildlife video will easily see, the results are impressive. James has collected some incredible footage of plants, animals, landscapes, and the often-missed intricate beauty of nature in the mountains of our local region. While he is currently a construction worker by trade, James is working towards a transition to full-time video production as a career.
Having acquired all the necessary equipment for video production over the past year, James now plans to create numerous visually stunning movies about the Sierra Nevada region that he truly loves. CSERC is grateful to James for providing us the chance to feature his beautiful film work on our website. To view his video: click here.
James was also recently featured in the Sierra Mountain Times article "The Sierra Through the Eyes of a Filmaker", which can be seen at: http://mysierramountaintimes.com/?p=3446#more-3446.
