How to Make a Bequest

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE A BEQUEST TO CSERC TO BENEFIT WATER, WILD PLACES, AND WILDLIFE OF THE NORTHERN YOSEMITE REGION

A bequest is simple and convenient. You have a number of options.  Since a will is an important legal document, you may wish to seek an attorney's help to create your will or to adjust your current will to include a specific bequest for CSERC.  However you choose to write your will, below are some suggested bequest wording options to help.

How to include the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center in your Will:

Specific bequests are used to make a gift of a specific dollar amount or specific assets such as securities, real estate, or personal property.  (Most donors to CSERC will likely prefer this kind of Specific Bequest.)

In your will you can simply include your wish: “I leave ($5,000, $250,000, $20,000, etc.) to the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center in Twain Harte, California, for general support of the non-profit Center’s work on behalf of the environment."

Residuary bequests are used to give all or a portion of the rest, residue, and remainder of your estate after payment of expenses and allocation of any specific amounts that you have designated to other beneficiaries.

The following provides three examples of suggested bequest wording to benefit the environmental efforts of the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center.  Each individual situation is unique and, therefore, these examples include only some of the possible gift opportunities.  We encourage you to share your final will provision with CSERC to ensure that your wishes will be properly followed and recognized.

Wording to use if you want to bequeath a percentage of your estate for unrestricted purposes

Specific amount for unrestricted purposes

I give, devise, and bequeath to the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center, a not-for-profit organization located in Twain Harte, California, the sum of $_______ in cash or in-kind (or ________ shares of ________stock) to be used at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center for the general purposes of protecting water, wildlife, and wild places of the Northern Yosemite region.

Specific amount for specific purposes

I give, devise, and bequeath to the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center, a not-for-profit organization located in Twain Harte, California, the sum of $_______ in cash or in-kind (or ________ shares of ________stock) to be used for __________________________________________.  If changed circumstances should at some future time make it impractical for the Center to apply the bequest for the specific purpose designated, then the Board of Directors of the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center may re-designate the purpose to adhere as closely as possible to my original intent.

Leaving a bequest to CSERC can provide a legacy of vital support that can benefit the scenic beauty, wildlife, and wild places of the world-renowned Northern Yosemite region far into the future.
